Whenever we talk about changing a situation, what readily comes to one's mind is that there is something wrong somewhere and it needs to be fixed. The statement most time conveys an idea of an undesirable circumstance.
Now,
if a situation needs to be changed, then it means that the situation
has negative effect on a person or a group of persons. However, some
times, the situation Mr. A is trying to change might be the situation
Mr. B is struggling to get. For instance, you are trying to change a job
because it is not good for you but at the same time, somewhere, someone
else is making all the efforts, struggling, and even trying to bribe
himself into the same position. No wonder the saying that "one man's
meat might be another man's poison". Or "that one man's disappointment
is another man's blessing".
In life, we cannot run away from certain situations. And that's why I created the golden questions
which everyone needs to answer. Challenging situations are inevitable.
In short, the more challenges you conquer, the greater the number of
challenges that come your way. So, the fact is that if you want to live a
meaningful life on earth, that is; if you want to set goals and achieve
them, you must be prepared to face challenging situations.
There
are uncountable numbers of undesirable situations in life. Some of them
for example are: overweight, academic failure, marital issues, lack of
money, failure in business, job dissatisfaction, ill health, raising
stubborn child, career change, heart break, poor academic performance,
relationship issues, regret and lots more.
In
this article, the main concern is how to change any situation
whatsoever it may be. I am from the school of thought that believes that
no situation is hopeless. Remember the popular saying "you only get
what you see" If you see a situation as hopeless, then it becomes
hopeless to you, but if you see it as an opportunity to change, it will
be so to you. The hopelessness of a situation is a reflection of
individual mind. The information I have for you is that every negative
situation in life can be changed if we determine to change it. Below are
the steps in changing any adverse or unfavorable situation in your
life.
1.What situation needs to be changed in your life?
1.What situation needs to be changed in your life?
In this step, you are required to find out the exact situation you want
to change. Write out the exact situation or challenge you are facing.
Sometimes there are so many issues bothering your mind at the same time.
So, you need to take them one at a time. You must not make the mistake
of muddling things up. This particular mistake is common among people
and it is seriously counter-productive. It leads to confusion. Note that
when you write down the situation required to be changed, it is
registered in your subconscious mind. And your subconscious mind will go
to work
2. What is the origin of this situation?
In
this second step, you are required to find out the cause of this
situation. How did this situation come about? Where is this situation
coming from? Is it your own fault directly or does it involve a third
party? Whatever the cause may be, whether it is your fault or that of
another person, you must have it in your mind, that you are the one who
is at the centre of it all. You are the one who is negatively affected.
Therefore, this is not the time to trade blames. This is not the right
time to complain or wriggle in regrets. It is time to change. You also
need to write down the source of this situation.
3.Why do you want to change this situation?
In this step, you are to find out the reason for the required change.
You also need to write down how this particular situation affects you. Here,
exactness is very important. Describe the change this situation has
caused in your life. For example, why do you want to reduce your weight?
I want to check my weight because obesity is dangerous to my health.
Over weight make me uncomfortable. So, write down the reasons for actions
you are taking.
4. What are the benefits of this exercise?
4. What are the benefits of this exercise?
This
fourth step is the most important one. Here you are to itemize the
expected results of this change you are trying to achieve. You need to
ask yourself the following questions; what will be the outcome of this
process? What are your gains in it? How will your life be when you
finally get to the end of this program? It is also extremely important
for you to write down all your expectations when the situation is
changed. Writing them down sends a signal to your subconscious mind and
the subconscious will go to work. For me, some time, I create an image of the
outcome in my mind. Then, in the process of carrying out the exercise,
once in a while, I try to imagine myself as though I am already enjoying
the end result. For instance, if your aim is to change job, make your
choice of the kind of job you want. What are the characteristics of the
people who are in this job? How do they dress? How do they interact with
others? Find out all these, and begin to act as though you are already
there. Sometimes, your body influences your mind. Your posture,
according to research can change your internal environment. I like to
say it this way, "you fake it till you become it". In some other
modules, this step comes first. This is because; most time people are
motivated to act when they already know what they tend to gain from a
task.
5. Sustaining the change.
5. Sustaining the change.
Now, it's not just enough to change the situation. Another
indispensable aspect of this exercise is sustenance. Having
achieved your goal, there is need for you to guard against relapse.
Remember that something was responsible for the situation, so in order to
avoid recurrence, you need to make sure you don't engage in practices
the will plunge you into similar situation. I know that a lot of us can
forget too soon, but remember that "once beaten twice shy". So try to
resist a relapse and persist in sustaining the change.
